For those of you who only get the opportunity to spend a minute with us... You can see what enjoying a night with us is like... :)
sam apparently is eager to get things started off

Civic Duty
It's that time of year... the time where you need to invest some time and put forth an effort to educate yourself. I am happy to say that I fulfilled my civic duty today as I voted absentee. I've thoroughly enjoyed becoming engaged this year; it's an incredibly decisive year and I can only hope that Obama comes out ahead. The fear that instills me when I think about Sarah Palin and John McCain is somewhat overbearing. Here's to the right individual getting the ticket!
new look
Well, I decided it was time to update the look of the mathers' web blog a bit. I would love to hear your thoughts :)

I am sitting in class right now. My day started out nice. It's a beautiful day outside and I got to sit at the coffee shop for a while. My day took a turn for the worse when I had to sit through a ridiculous meeting that involved some higher-ups on the University preaching to me about how "great" things are within our department and how impactful the programs are that we are producing. Insert reality here and understand that they were specifically speaking to a handful of individuals that are eating out of their hands who never push the envelope and who basically do nothing. It makes me so angry to hear words that sound like this: nah nah naaaah nah nah. It's all a big puff of niceness that doesn't translate into reality. Oh, beurocracy and hierarchy... you drive me nuts!

life outside of academia
Believe it or not, sometimes we find time to enjoy life :) Here are some snapshots from recent adventures:
This picture of shadow has quite the story behind it. I had been playing Wii fit until wee hours of the morning (no pun intended), when I decided to run upstairs for a minute. I found the screen door open and all of the animals gone. Rubix and Jaz were at the end of the staircase and I was able to easily grab them. Shadow, however, decided to roam the area and didn't come home until codie coerced him back around 3:30 am when he got off work. Shads was covered in thorns and weeds and was soaking wet. Codie and I were laughing so hard that we had to take a picture :)
Mikey wants an airpopper.... so, rather than spending $20 he improvised and created one with his coffee roaster... oooohhh. engineers!

The big day of goose hunting! They limited out; this was mikey's first time ever limiting out with geese! He and I had gone scouting the night before, so I was equally excited to see that they had great luck. The only downer to the day was that it rained all morning, so they were completely soaked.
